Your wedding day is sure to be a whirlwind! It's like Christmas morning-- all of the excitement, anticipation, planning, and hard work you've put into your day will finally come and go. And while I fully believe you should try and savor every single moment, it's sure to be a day that you'll want to relive over and over again. The best way to do that is through photos.
Your wedding photographer is quite possibly one of the most important vendors you will book for your wedding day. You will probably spend more time communicating with your photographer than any other vendor, and it's so important that you vibe well with that person!
You'll be in contact with your photographer during the initial inquiry process, a consultation, various phone calls and emails, an engagement session, your wedding day, and beyond! It's so important that you trust the photographer that you hire, as that will give you an extra element of relaxation the day of your wedding.
Do you vibe well with this photographer? It's imperative that you trust your photographer with your most precious moments and memories. You should feel comfortable with them, and you should like them as a person! You'll be communicating a ton in the weeks and months leading up to your wedding, and spending 6-10 hours with them on your wedding day! Your photographer should be a source of support, not a source of stress.
Is their editing and composition style what you like, and is it consistent? You should know exactly what to expect when you receive your gallery, and that should be exciting to you! Do you like dark, moody photography? Or bright and airy? Candid shots or posed? Make sure that your style aligns with theirs, and be sure that they're consistent from photo to photo and from session to session.
Are they organized and prepared? Does your photographer have backup equipment? How do they backup your photos at the end of the night? Are they knowledgeable about wedding day timelines, and do they communicate clearly with you about how much time they need to appropriately carry out their job?
Do you know exactly what to expect if you choose them as your photographer? Do you know how long their turnaround time is? Do you know how many you will get, and how they will be delivered to you? Do you know exactly what is included in the collection that you choose? Know exactly what you're getting and when, up front.
Are they excited about the prospect of being the one that you choose? Are they excited for your wedding day, excited for your marriage? Are they there to encourage you, your fiancé, and your relationship? I'm there to serve and support my couples, and it brings me such joy to know that my clients are excited to work with me, and have my photos as their family herilooms.
When it comes to choosing a wedding photographer, it all comes down to finding someone you connect well with, stylistically and personally. When you have that genuine connection with your photographer, they'll be able to do a better job capturing all of your emotions and all of the tiny details of your day. Down the road, your photos will be all that you have to look back on and relive your wedding day, and you'll be grateful that you chose the right photographer for you.
